The main theme for this meeting will be Health and Wellbeing as it featured as one of the priorities for the forum. Conversations have taken place to develop links with Public Health to the point where representatives from Public Health are keen to start conversations with Women about their health needs and how we (the forum) can work together in the future.

The agenda will include a short presentation to introduce Public Health and the initiatives that they are working on, to help provide context for a workshop on how we can work together in the future.

Dr Ian Cameron – Director of Public Health Leeds is committed to developing the relationship between the Forum and Public Health and has committed his time to engage with the Forum, through an event in the Autumn, of which the July meeting will be the start of this process, so an opportunity to start to look at with partners the health needs for women across the city.

Changes to initial plans.

The Chair and the Project Manager have agreed slight changes to initial plans presented at the meeting on 29 March, with the establishment of Safety and Employment sub groups. These sub groups have been designed to lead on individual priorities as identified by the membership and will allow members to choose which meetings they would like to attend, based on their own personal preferences.

Sub Groups

Safety Sub Group – CANCELLED

So following the request to ask members what particular “safety” aspect should be looked at first, due to a minimal response the safety sub group will initially take a general approach in its first meeting and look at safety across the piece.

The Safety Sub group will take place on Monday 26th June 10.00am – 12.00noon, East Room, Leeds Civic Hall

where those who wish to further the discussions around women’s safety can come together to do this. Representatives from Safer Leeds have been invited to hear your views, thoughts and emerging safety issues and concerns that you may have.

Employment Sub Group

An Employment sub group is being established which will focus on all elements of employment as raised in the meeting on 29 March. There was an aim for its first meeting to take place in June, but with unfortunate events in Manchester last week, meetings to progress this were cancelled, so the Chair and Project Manager will work on establishing this sub group over the summer period.

Girls Sub Group

The Girls sub group as mentioned in the March meeting is being lead and established by Getaway Girls with it’s first meeting being planned after exams and Eid have concluded – more information will follow.

Future meetings and planned activity

Finally as mentioned a Health and Wellbeing focussed meeting is planned for the early autumn and there are early conversations for a “Women’s and Girls Challenge event” to take place later on in the autumn, so lots of activity starting to take place – to provide opportunities to speak with city leaders, influence activities and to ensure Women have a Voice in city-wide developments.
